Frustrated by administrative neglect and lack of a proper road, the residents of Tunguripada in Balisankara block, Odisha, took matters into their own hands. Over 150 people living in this forest-area hamlet faced severe commuting issues, especially during monsoons. After their pleas to local officials and the MLA went unanswered, the villagers pooled their own money and provided manual labor to build a temporary road using old cement poles. Local authorities claim the road construction is hindered by forest department regulations as the land is classified as forest land.
