Veteran playback singer Suman Kalyanpur has passed away at the age of 89. Born on January 28, 1937, she began her career in 1953 with the Marathi film 'Shukrachi Chandni'. Known for her melodious voice that closely resembled Lata Mangeshkar, she was often referred to as the 'Second Lata'. She sang over 850 songs in 11 languages and collaborated with legends like Mohammed Rafi and Manna Dey. For her immense contribution to music, she was honored with the Padma Bhushan and Gadima awards. Her demise marks the end of a golden era in Indian music.
