On 19 May 2026, an alleged medical negligence in Kanpur triggered major outrage when a ITBP jawan Vikas Singh accused a private hospital where his mother Nirmala Devi’s was admitted for breathing and respiratory problems. But during the treatment, a drip was allegedly inserted into her right hand, after which severe swelling, blackening and infection developed in her hand and which later led to her mother's hand amputation.
Singh claimed he spent nearly three days seeking police action but no FIR was registered, after which he reached the Police Commissioner’s office carrying his mother’s severed hand to demand justice, but still no action was taken.
Then on 23 May 2026, around 40–60 armed personnel of the Indo Tibetan Border Police gathered at the Kanpur Police Commissionerate seeking immediate action against the hospital and stronger investigation into the case.
ITBP officials later denied allegations of surrounding the commissionerate and said the officers had come after a prior appointment. After that the authorities subsequently ordered a fresh inquiry into the alleged negligence of kanpur police delay in registering FIR and hospital involved. #Uttar Pradesh
