📖 Today’s Gospel — April 30, 2026 Thursday of the 4th Week of Easter John 13:16–20 Jesus said: “Amen, amen, I say to you, no servant is greater than his master, nor any messenger greater than the one who sent him.” He has just knelt. Towel in hand. Water at His feet. The Master becomes the servant. Not in words— in action. “If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them.” Not knowing. Doing. Faith is not proven in understanding, but in imitation. Then a shift: “I am not speaking of all of you… He who ate my bread has lifted his heel against me.” Even here— betrayal is near. And still— He serves. Still— He lowers Himself. No anger. No withdrawal. Only love that does not rise above, but bends down. “I tell you this now, before it happens, so that when it happens you may believe that I AM.” Not loss of control. Revelation. “Whoever receives the one I send receives me, and whoever receives me receives the one who sent me.” A chain of presence. Unbroken. To receive another in His name is to receive Christ. And through Christ— the Father. ✨ Reflection This Gospel confronts pride at its root. The desire to be above, to be seen, to be acknowledged. Yet Jesus chooses the lowest place. Even in the presence of betrayal, He does not withdraw His love. In daily life, the test of discipleship is not how high we rise, but how willing we are to serve when it costs us something. 💡 Context (Important) This passage follows the washing of the disciples’ feet and leads into the revelation of Judas’ betrayal. Jesus prepares His disciples for both mission and suffering. The citation refers to Psalm 41:9, emphasizing the pain of betrayal from one close. Yet Jesus frames everything within divine purpose and obedience to the Father. 💡 Truths to Remember • True greatness is found in humble service • Faith must move from knowledge to action • Jesus remains faithful even in betrayal • Receiving others in Christ is receiving God Himself • The life of a disciple reflects the life of the Master 🙏 Prayer Lord Jesus, You chose to serve even when it cost You everything. Remove pride from my heart and teach me to follow Your example. Give me the grace to serve with humility, even when it is unseen or difficult. Amen.
