Every year after the Snana Purnima festival in Puri, Lord Jagannath and his siblings fall ill and spend 15 days in isolation known as 'Anasara'. They are bathed in 108 pots of water, which leads to a fever-like state. During this period, the deities undergo secret Ayurvedic treatment by temple physicians using herbal medicines like Dashamula Modaka and Phuluri oil. The tradition is linked to a legend involving devotee Madhav Das.
