The Uttar Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission has rolled back a 10% fuel surcharge on June electricity bills after a petition by the State Electricity Consumers Council. The commission ruled that adjusting old arrears through a surcharge violates the 2025 Multi-Year Tariff rules. The Power Corporation has been directed to submit a revised assessment within seven days. The consumer council argued that instead of a surcharge, consumers should receive a 2% rebate if actual March energy costs were correctly calculated, claiming an unfair burden of ₹1,610 crore was imposed.
