A decomposed carcass of an elephant was recovered from the Ranpur forest range in Nayagarh district. Forest officials reached the spot after a foul smell alerted locals. Since the tusks were intact, officials suspect it wasn't a case of poaching. Samples have been sent to the Wildlife Health Center at OUAT, Bhubaneswar, to determine the exact cause of death.
