INDIANS on Instagram: "Savitribai Phule was India’s first woman teacher and one of the bravest social reformers in our history. Born on 3 January 1831 in Maharashtra, she broke the cruel rules of her time to educate girls, Dalits, and the poor. Along with Jyotirao Phule, she started the first school for girls in Pune in 1848, faced daily abuse from orthodox society, and still refused to stop. She also worked for widow remarriage, against caste injustice, and for the dignity of women who had been pushed to the margins. Savitribai Phule passed away on 10 March 1897, not in comfort, but in service. During the plague outbreak near Pune, she personally helped care for the sick and carried an infected child to safety, after which she contracted the disease herself and died. Her death was as powerful as her life, fearless, compassionate, and devoted to humanity. On her death anniversary, we remember not only how she died, but why she lived, to open doors that society had shut, and to light a path that still guides India forward. 🇮🇳❤️"
