**Ash Waste Dumped Along Thanjavur Bypass Causes Major Trouble for Motorists – Risk of Accidents Increasing**
Thanjavur:
Motorists travelling along the Thanjavur bypass are facing serious difficulties as black ash waste from local rice mills is being dumped along the roadside. The fine ash particles are blowing in the wind, entering the eyes of commuters and causing discomfort and reduced visibility.
For the past three days, trucks have been transporting this ash from rice mills and dumping it at several points between Palliagraharam and Vallam. Due to scattered ash on the road, two-wheelers are slipping frequently, leading to accidents.
Just two days ago, Ramesh from Kumbakonam suffered injuries after his bike skidded on the ash. He was rushed to Thanjavur Medical College Hospital by a 108 ambulance.
Villagers also complain that the ash has begun to clog the irrigation canals running along both sides of the bypass. If the dumping continues, farmers fear that water supply to their paddy fields may be severely affected.
Residents say:
“More than 50 tonnes of ash has been dumped from Thiruvaiyaru Road to Vallam. At night, trucks come and unload heaps of ash along the bypass. The dust keeps flying everywhere, troubling the public. We request the district administration to immediately stop this dumping and take strict action.”
