Hello Vizag - City Updates & Business on Instagram: "U.S. Sanctions Linked to Over 500,000 Deaths Annually, Global Study Raises Humanitarian Concerns A recent global study has raised serious concerns about the humanitarian impact of economic sanctions, estimating that unilateral sanctions imposed by the United States and its allies are associated with more than 560,000 deaths every year worldwide. The research, published in The Lancet Global Health, analyzed data from 152 countries between 1971 and 2021 and found a strong association between economic sanctions and increased mortality rates. According to the findings, the number of deaths linked to sanctions each year is comparable to global fatalities caused by armed conflicts. Researchers say sanctions can disrupt national economies, reduce government revenues, and restrict access to essential imports such as medicines, medical equipment, food supplies, and energy resources. These disruptions often weaken public health systems and lead to severe humanitarian consequences. The study also highlighted that the most vulnerable groups, including children under five and the elderly, are disproportionately affected due to shortages of healthcare, nutrition, and essential services. Some estimates suggest that the cumulative human impact of sanctions since the 1970s could be in the tens of millions of deaths, intensifying the global debate on the humanitarian consequences of economic sanctions used as a geopolitical tool. Experts are now calling for more targeted and carefully designed sanctions policies that can achieve diplomatic goals without causing widespread suffering among civilian populations."
