A 33-year-old cadet of the Indian Military Academy (IMA), Dehradun, tragically lost his life during a routine swimming drill on Wednesday afternoon.
The cadet, identified as S Balu, hailed from Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, and was in his second term of training at the academy. According to IMA officials, he was immediately rushed to the Military Hospital after the incident but was declared dead on arrival.
An officer from the academy confirmed the unfortunate development, stating, “The incident occurred around afternoon. The cadet was taken to the military hospital immediately, where he was pronounced dead.”
Officials further revealed that Balu was already serving as a soldier in the Indian Army before he cleared the examinations to undergo pre-commission training at the IMA in order to become a commissioned officer.
