19 February 2026 marks the birth anniversary of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, founder of the Maratha Empire. He was born on 19 February 1630 at Shivneri Fort in present day Maharashtra. He built a strong, independent kingdom through smart strategy, strong forts, and guerrilla warfare, and also developed a capable navy. He believed in fair rule, respected all religions, and worked to protect common people. His coronation happened in 1674 at Raigad Fort, where he was titled Chhatrapati, and his dream of Swarajya still inspires India today.
