Goats Initiative Sparks Dairy Revolution in Kashmir
In a
significant step to boost milk production and strengthen the dairy sector in
Kashmir, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of
Kashmir has introduced the Saanen goat breed, popularly known as the “Milk
Queen,” from Switzerland into the Valley. Under this initiative, a total of 24
Saanen goats, including 4 males, have been brought to the Mountain Research
Centre for Sheep and Goats (MRCS&G) in Shuhama. The move aims to enhance
local milk production, improve indigenous breeds, and create new livelihood
opportunities for youth. Experts believe that this initiative has the potential
to bring a dairy revolution in Kashmir and significantly increase farmers’
