Reviving
Chamba Embroidery: Initiative to Empower Women in Kathua
In the
Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir, the Department of Handicrafts and
Handloom has launched a special training program under the ‘Karkhandar Scheme’
to revive the ancient art of Chamba embroidery.
The
initiative aims not only to preserve this traditional craft but also to empower
women by promoting their socio-economic development. Under the guidance of the
Department of Handicrafts and Handloom Jammu, efforts are being made to breathe
new life into the fading art of Chamba embroidery.
This
craft was once highly popular in the hilly regions of Jammu and Himachal
Pradesh and is known for its intricate pictorial style. A dedicated training
center has been established in Village Kootah, Tehsil Hiranagar, where local
women are being provided advanced training in Chamba embroidery. #11 May के अपडेट
