On 31 May 2026, Around 20–25 candidates appearing for the Uttar Pradesh B.Ed Joint Entrance Examination fell into a sewage drain after an old concrete slab collapsed outside a photocopy shop near HN Mishra PG College in the MacRobertganj/Colonelganj area of Kanpur. The candidates had gathered to get photocopies of required documents before entering the examination centre when the overcrowded and dilapidated drain cover gave way. Police Commissioner Raghubir Lal said the slab collapsed due to overcrowding. Four candidates suffered minor injuries, while one injured guardian was taken to a hospital; there were no fatalities. Several admit cards, books and documents were damaged, but all candidates were later assisted and reached their examination centres, and the exam was conducted as scheduled. #Uttar Pradesh
