On 31 May 2026, a massive traffic jam was reported on the Badrinath National Highway (NH-7) near Joshimath in Chamoli district, Uttarakhand, during the ongoing Char Dham pilgrimage season. Multiple reports estimated the traffic jam stretched for around 25–30 kilometres, mainly around the Joshimath Vishnuprayag stretch. Police and district officials deployed additional personnel and introduced an emergency token based gate system with controlled one way traffic movement to ease congestion. Authorities said traffic flow gradually improved after the gate system was implemented, but travelers remained stranded for several hours, with clearance operations continuing through the day. #uttarkhand
