A video showing the severed head of a lizard allegedly found in a serving of vegetarian biryani has gone viral from Uttar Pradesh's Bulandshahr district, prompting action by the Food Safety Department.
According to reports, a passerby purchased vegetarian biryani from a roadside cart near the Jahangirabad Chungi intersection in Shikarpur. While eating, he allegedly noticed the severed head of a lizard in the biryani. The customer confronted the vendor, following which a crowd gathered at the spot.
The customer later left the area, while the vendor reportedly said he would discard the remaining biryani before leaving with his cart.
Taking cognisance of the viral video, the Food Safety Department conducted a surprise inspection on July 11. A team led by Food Safety Officer Sunil Kumar Singh inspected the food stall and collected samples of the biryani and other food items for laboratory testing.
Officials said the samples have been sealed and sent for analysis. Based on the laboratory report, appropriate legal action will be taken against the vendor under the Food Safety and Standards Act, if violations are confirmed.
The incident has raised fresh concerns over food hygiene and safety standards at roadside food stalls. #🔴 क्राइम अपडेट
