On 15 May 2026, a borewell rescue incident took place in Chak Samana (also reported as Chak Sawana) village in Punjab’s Hoshiarpur district, where a 3-year-old boy identified as Gurkaran Singh alias Vansh accidentally fell into an uncovered borewell while playing near agricultural fields outside his home.
According to officials, the child became trapped around 25 feet underground in the gap beside the borewell pipe, triggering a massive rescue operation involving the NDRF, SDRF, Punjab Police, district administration and local volunteers.
After nearly nine hours of rescue efforts using JCB machines and a parallel trench, the child was safely pulled out late on 15 May and taken for medical care.
Deputy Commissioner Aashika Jain and SSP Sandeep Kumar Malik supervised the operation, while oxygen was continuously supplied to the child. #punjab
