The soul of Marichi Ji undertook spiritual practice after receiving initiation from the First Tirthankara, Rishabhdev Ji. As a consequence, Marichi Ji's soul endured lives as a donkey, a dog, and other creatures, and wandered through both heavenly and hellish realms. Subsequently, he became Mahavir Jain. The evidence for this can be found on pages 294–296 of the book *Aao Jain Dharm Ko Jaanein* (Come, Let Us Know Jainism). Mahavir Ji, however, did not receive initiation from anyone at all; instead, he performed his spiritual practice by following his own arbitrary conduct.
