The Kunjom Tribal Hostel in Wayanad, the district's first scheduled tribe hostel, has remained closed for a decade. Once accommodating 40 students with study and dining facilities, the building was shut down by the Tribal Development Department due to its dilapidated condition. The reconstruction is stalled because of lack of funds to demolish the old structure and build a new one. The seven-acre campus is now overgrown with forest, affecting the education of tribal children in the Thondernad region.
