Nepal has begun strictly enforcing its existing customs rule at the border with India, under which only goods worth up to NPR 100 which equals to only ₹60–65 INR is allowed duty-free while anything above that is subject to customs charges. Although this rule was already existed in place from years, but it was hardly implemented earlier, but recent crackdowns have led to tighter inspections at border checkpoints, with officials checking everyday items like groceries and collecting duty based on category. This is being done to eradiate the small-scale smuggling and to protect and encourage local markets, but it has significantly impacted daily cross border shoppers due to the very low duty free limit. #nepal
