The West Bengal government has issued strict guidelines for animal slaughter ahead of Bakrid, following High Court orders. Sacrificing animals in open or public spaces is now completely prohibited and can only be done at government-approved slaughterhouses. A joint certificate from municipal/panchayat heads and a government veterinarian is mandatory for slaughtering cows, buffaloes, and bulls. Violating these rules may lead to up to 6 months in prison, a fine of 1,000 rupees, or both.
