Gurnoor Kaur, a 17-year-old Punjabi-origin student from Kitchener, Ontario, has won the 'Best Project for Innovation' award at the Canada-Wide Science Fair in Edmonton. She developed a solution to a 35-year-old flaw in pulse oximeters that caused inaccurate oxygen readings for people with darker skin tones. Her research corrected a mathematical error in existing cardiac models. Previously, she also created an AI-based system to monitor delirium in hospital patients.
