Located 3,500 feet above sea level within the Male Mahadeshwara Wildlife Sanctuary in Chamarajanagar, Kathri Malai is a sacred peak believed to hold the footprints of Lord Mahadeshwara. Devotees undertake a challenging 3-5 km trek through dense forests, home to tigers and elephants, to seek relief from evil spirits and health issues. Due to the presence of wildlife, forest department permission and local guides are mandatory for the visit. Special prayers are held on Amavasya and Mahashivaratri.
