Following the acceptance of their resignations by the Speaker, AIADMK's strength in the assembly dropped from 47 to 44. Opposition leaders, including DMK's M.K. Stalin and AIADMK's EPS, criticized the move, calling it 'horse-trading' and a pre-planned conspiracy. The defecting MLAs claimed they joined TVK voluntarily for better governance.
