On 16 May 2026, the satirical “Cockroach Janata Party” (CJP) went viral across Indian social media after unemployed youth were allegedly compared to “cockroaches” during a Supreme Court hearing linked to judge Surya Kant. The online movement was started by Abhijeet Dipke, a former AAP volunteer and PR student at Boston University, and quickly gained traction through memes, student participation, and political discussions online. Days later, on 19 May 2026, several young volunteers dressed as cockroaches were seen cleaning garbage and plastic waste from the polluted Yamuna River in Delhi as part of the campaign, turning the controversial remark into a symbolic public service protest. Videos of the insect costume cleanup went viral, while politicians like Mahua Moitra and Kirti Azad were largely supportive and playful toward the “Cockroach Janata Party” campaign. Mahua Moitra publicly said she wanted to join the satirical movement, while Kirti Azad jokingly asked about the qualifications needed to become a member. #Delhi
