The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is preparing to issue new licenses for Urban Cooperative Banks (UCBs) after a hiatus since 2004. Due to improvements in bank management, RBI issued a discussion paper in January and received positive feedback. There is a proposal to reduce the minimum capital requirement for new banks to 300 crore rupees. While this move aims to strengthen financial inclusion, challenges like fund mobilization and administrative issues remain. Currently, there are 1,457 UCBs in India with total assets worth 7.38 lakh crore rupees. https://sambad.in/india-and-beyond/rbi-likely-to-reopen-licensing-window-for-urban-co-operative-banks-report-12027730 #creator program
