According to the legend, Ravana had acquired immense power through his penance and had brought many gods and celestial beings under his control. He is said to have imprisoned Shani Dev in Lanka.
Ravana wanted his son Meghanada (Indrajit) to be born under extremely favorable planetary positions. He therefore tried to control the planets and commanded them to remain in positions favorable to his son.
However, Shani Dev did not completely submit to Ravana’s wishes. Enraged, Ravana is said to have imprisoned him.
Later, when Lord Hanuman entered Lanka, he freed Shani Dev along with other imprisoned beings. Shani Dev then blessed Hanuman and is traditionally believed to have said that devotees who worship Hanuman with faith would receive protection from severe effects of Saturn.Shanidev and Hanuman🚩
