Independence Day is a special occasion. You wake up early with a sense of pride, happiness, and nostalgia. You then switch on your TV and music system to play patriotic songs, reminiscing about your school days and childhood. Ah! I wish someone could give me that "boondi wala" laddu today. Thanks to the lovely elders in my housing society, I did get some this time 😀 To add to the nostalgia, kids danced to songs like 'Nanha Munna Rahi Hoon,' 'Desh Rangila,' and 'Maa Tujhe Salaam.' Yes, 'Desh Rangila' still remains a favourite on the Independence Day stage.
I have observed that the enthusiasm to celebrate Independence Day has increased over the past few years. Back in our village, my mother conducted a flag-hoisting ceremony, as did many others. Some credit goes to the #HarGharTiranga campaign."
How India celebrates Independence Day is changing and evolving for the better. But have you ever wondered how India/Bharat commemorates Independence Day on the Internet? Well, some of my colleagues have uncovered intriguing user behavior data. Let's delve in!
Waking up early to express our love for India
As you and I rise early, so do millions of others. On August 15th, over 20 million users logged onto ShareChat before 7 am to create, view, and share content related to Independence Day. On average, ShareChat witnessed 1.25 million+ shares per hour on August 15th, increasing to 3.5 million shares per hour in the morning hours! You might wonder about all this sharing. Well, you need many videos and images to convey wishes to your friends and family, update multiple WhatsApp statuses, and change display pictures. And this is a use case that ShareChat solves really well.
Our extensive creator ecosystems ultimately fuel all this sharing. ShareChat creators crafted 500,000 pieces of content on Independence Day and the theme of patriotism, garnering over 2 billion views. Meanwhile, Moj creators fashioned 745,000 videos, accumulating 1.2 billion video plays. On ShareChat, one creator received 550,000 shares on her posts related to patriotism and Independence Day.
The leading trending tag on ShareChat was #SwantantraDiwasKiShubhkamnaein (equivalents in other languages), amassing 170,000 creations, 750 million views, and 16 million shares in 15 languages. India certainly loves exchanging well-wishes. Beyond wishes, we also witnessed trends in other themes such as lifestyle, patriotism, and history. Top trending hashtags included 🇮🇳 हर घर तिरंगा , 🇮🇳 अमृत महोत्सव, 🎵देशभक्ति गीत, 🤩I love Indian Army, 📃देशभक्ति शायरी📝📜आज़ादी की अनसुनी कहानियां 💃तिरंगा फैशन🇮🇳 🖼स्वतंत्रता दिवस आर्ट 🎨 (equivalents in other languages), totaling 289,000 creations and 1.1 billion+ views.
Patriotism without music is somewhat incomplete, just as videos are.
I'm sure there's that one song that gives you goosebumps every time you hear it. For me, that's "Maa Tujhe Salaam" by AR Rahman. On ShareChat and Moj, you encounter a diverse range of music due to different languages and cultures. However, this Independence Day, the song that topped the creation charts overall was "Desh Mere," sung by Arijit Singh from the 2021 movie Bhuj. Users created 124,000 videos using this music, garnering 94 million video plays. From a language perspective, "Maa Tujhe Salaam" dominated in Punjabi, Bangla, Telugu, Marathi, Odia; "Mera Rang De Basanti Chola" in Hindi, and "Bharathambe Ninna Januma Dina" in Kannada.
Congrats, “DeshMere”, but MaaTujheSalaam still rocks!
The love for the tricolour goes digital.
Just as you adorned your homes, cars, and bikes with tricolour, our ShareChat & Moj Live creator community did the same. Around 85,000 creators (hosts) changed their display pictures to the Tricolor, creating a captivating patriotic experience. On the other hand, users took a liking to tricoloured virtual gifts. Users exchanged 1.5 million Independence Day-themed virtual gifts on Moj and ShareChat, the most popular being the Tricolor Heart (exchanged 545,000 times) and I Love India (exchanged 140,000 times). Over 300,000 live streams were on ShareChat Audio and Moj Video Live with an Independence Day theme. It all began in the morning, with various hosts live-streaming flag hoisting events and continued with poetry readings, musical gatherings, quizzes, and debates on Indian history throughout the day. One of the top hosts on Moj received virtual gifts worth INR 818,000, while the top creator on ShareChat received virtual gifts worth INR 850,000.
When it comes to representing India, its culture, and society, nothing compares to ShareChat and Moj. We are genuinely grateful to our community of creators, hosts, and users who bring these special days to life on the Internet.
