Farmers in Vijayanagara's Chilakanahatti staged a protest in front of the Forest Sub-division office demanding compensation for crops destroyed by wild animals. Around 400 acres of sugarcane and maize were damaged by wild boars, bears, and leopards. The protesters, led by the Akila Karnataka Raitha Sangha, are demanding ₹50,000 per acre in compensation. Although Range Forest Officer Kaushik Dalawai promised to bring the issue to the notice of higher authorities, the farmers continued their sit-in protest demanding a visit from the DCF or District Collector.
