It has been 175 years since the first clear photograph of a total solar eclipse was captured. Taken on July 28, 1851, by photographer Johann Julius Friedrich Berkowski in Konigsberg, Prussia, using the daguerreotype process, this image revolutionized solar astronomy. It allowed scientists to study the sun's outer atmosphere, the corona, which is usually invisible due to the sun's brightness. While modern satellites like ESA's Proba-3 simulate eclipses, natural total eclipses remain the most accurate source for studying solar winds and plasma bursts.
