With the 2019 Lok Sabha election just months away, BJP played a decisive masterstroke — 10% EWS Reservation for Economically Weaker Sections among General Category. 📌 Result? BJP secured 303 seats in 2019 — the highest ever tally in BJP’s history. There is no denying this truth: GC vote consolidation + EWS promise mattered. This never applied to reservation in education or public employment. In 1951, the Supreme Court's Champakam Dorairajan judgment struck down caste-based reservation in educational institutions. In response, the Nehru Government enacted the First Constitutional Amendment, inserting Article 15(4) to enable reservation in education. Likewise, the Modi Government introduced 10% EWS reservation through the 103rd Constitutional Amendment (2019), which must be implemented uniformly across all States and UTs.
