The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has announced that rainfall will remain subdued in Northwest, Central, and South India for the next 6-7 days. The overall Southwest monsoon deficit has reached 19%, with states like Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Odisha recording a 99% deficit on Monday. Experts attribute this decline to the El Nino effect in the Pacific Ocean. Consequently, the sowing of summer crops like paddy, pulses, and cotton has decreased compared to last year. Rainfall is not expected to pick up significantly for the next 7-10 days, except in the Northeast and Himalayan foothills.
