Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board's decision to stop power banking has dealt a financial blow to Punjab. PSPCL may have to spend an additional ₹300-400 crore to procure electricity during the paddy season as Himachal shifts to selling power in the open market for higher profits. Demand in Punjab is expected to exceed 18,000 MW during the peak summer months of June to August.
