Flying Officer Manmohan Singh was the first Indian to fly solo from England to India in 1930 in an aircraft named 'Miss India'. Born in Rawalpindi, he later became the chief pilot for the Maharaja of Patiala. During World War II, he joined the Indian Air Force Volunteer Reserve. He tragically attained martyrdom on March 3, 1942, while defending Australian soil against a Japanese air raid in Broome. His legacy is still honored at the Darwin War Memorial in Australia.
