📖 Today’s Gospel — Tuesday, May 5, 2026 Tuesday of the 5th Week of Easter | John 14:27–31a Jesus said to his disciples: “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give it to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid.” The peace Jesus gives is not fragile and not dependent on circumstances. It is the steady presence of God within— a peace rooted in trust, not in control. The world offers relief that fades. Christ offers peace that remains. “You heard me tell you, ‘I am going away and I will come back to you.’ If you loved me, you would rejoice that I am going to the Father…” His departure is not loss. It is the path to something greater— a deeper union through the Spirit who will come. “And now I have told you this before it happens, so that when it happens you may believe.” Jesus prepares their hearts so that faith will remain even when they do not understand. “I will no longer speak much with you, for the ruler of the world is coming. He has no power over me…” Darkness approaches, but it holds no authority over Him. “…but the world must know that I love the Father and that I do just as the Father has commanded me.” His obedience reveals His love. Even in the face of the Cross, He remains faithful. ✨ Reflection “My peace I give to you.” Jesus speaks these words on the night before His suffering. This is not theoretical peace— it is tested peace. It is the peace that remains even when life is uncertain, even when fear rises. Today, what troubles your heart? What unsettles your spirit? Hear Him again: “Do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid.” 💡 Context (Important) This passage continues the Farewell Discourse at the Last Supper. Jesus prepares His disciples for His Passion, death, and return to the Father. The peace He gives contrasts with the temporary peace of the world. It flows from His victory over sin and death. “The ruler of this world” refers to the power of evil, which has no claim over Christ. His perfect obedience to the Father reveals the fullness of divine love. 💡 Truths to Remember • Christ’s peace is a gift, not something we create • His departure leads to the coming of the Holy Spirit • Evil has no power over Jesus • Obedience to the Father reveals true love 🙏 Prayer Lord Jesus, give me Your peace— the peace that does not depend on circumstances but on Your presence. Calm my troubled heart. Remove my fears. Teach me to trust in You fully and to live in obedience to the Father. Amen.
