🏅 SAINT OF THE DAY June 27 2026 Saint Cyril of Alexandria Defender of the Faith • Doctor of the Incarnation 📖 "And the Word became flesh and lived among us." — John 1:14 Saint Cyril of Alexandria dedicated his life to defending one of the most important truths of the Christian faith: Who is Jesus Christ? Born around AD 376 in Alexandria, Egypt, Cyril grew up to become Archbishop of Alexandria, one of the most influential leaders in the early Church. During his lifetime, a serious controversy arose. Some began teaching that Mary should not be called Theotokos ("Mother of God"), claiming that she gave birth only to the human Jesus. Saint Cyril immediately recognized what was at stake. If Jesus is not truly God made flesh, then humanity cannot truly be saved. With courage and unwavering faith, Cyril defended the Church's teaching that Jesus Christ is one Divine Person—fully God and fully man. Because the Child born of Mary is truly God incarnate, Mary is rightly called Mother of God. At the Council of Ephesus in AD 431, the Church solemnly affirmed this truth. For his profound teaching and defense of the faith, Cyril was later declared a Doctor of the Church. ✨ What Saint Cyril Teaches Us Truth matters. What we believe about Jesus shapes everything. Christianity is not built upon ideas, but upon a Person: Jesus Christ, the eternal Son of God made flesh for our salvation. The more deeply we know Jesus, the more deeply we know God. 🙏 Prayer Saint Cyril of Alexandria, faithful defender of the Incarnation, pray for us.
