The nine renowned Shiva shrines situated along the banks of the Thamirabarani River—spanning the districts of Tirunelveli and Thoothukudi—are collectively known as the 'Nava Kailayams' (The Nine Kailayas). 👇 Sage Romaharshana, a disciple of Sage Agastya, sought his Guru's guidance in attaining Moksha (liberation). Sage Agastya released nine lotus flowers into the Thamirabarani River and instructed his disciple to consecrate a Shiva Lingam at each specific spot where a flower eventually came to rest. It is through this divine process that these Nava Kailayams came into existence. The nine sacred sites are: • Papanasam – Sun (Surya) • Cheranmahadevi – Moon (Chandra) • Kodaganallur – Mars (Sevvai) • Kunnathur – Mercury (Budhan) • Murappanadu – Jupiter (Guru) • Srivaikuntam – Venus (Sukran) • Thenthiruperai – Saturn (Sani) • Rajapathi – Rahu • Serndhapoomangalam – Ketu.
