📖 June 29 GOSPEL Solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul, Apostles Matthew 16:13–19 The Question That Changes Everything Jesus asked His disciples: 📖 "Who do you say that I am?" (Matthew 16:15) This is the most important question every person must answer. Not: Who do others say Jesus is? Not: What does society say? But: Who do you say that I am? Simon Peter answered: 📖 "You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God." (Matthew 16:16) Peter recognized that Jesus was more than a prophet, teacher, or miracle worker. Jesus is the Christ. The Son of God. The Savior of the world. Jesus then declared: 📖 "You are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my Church." (Matthew 16:18) Simon received a new name and a new mission. Peter became the visible rock upon which Christ would build His Church. The Church does not belong to Peter. The Church belongs to Jesus. Yet Christ chose to build His Church upon the apostolic foundation, with Peter serving as its shepherd. For two thousand years, Christ has remained faithful to His promise: 📖 "The gates of Hades shall not prevail against it." Empires have risen and fallen. Persecutions have come and gone. The Church has endured trials, scandals, and suffering. Yet she remains. Not because Christians are perfect. But because Christ is faithful. ✨ Reflection Like Peter, we are each invited to answer Jesus personally: Who is Jesus for me? A historical figure? A teacher? A distant religious symbol? Or truly the Lord of my life? Every day, our lives either affirm or deny Peter's confession. Like Peter, we will sometimes fail. But Jesus never abandons those He calls. He strengthens us, restores us, and continues His work through imperfect disciples who trust in His mercy. 🙏 Prayer Lord Jesus, You are the Christ, the Son of the living God. Deepen our faith in You and strengthen our love for Your Church. Help us, like Saints Peter and Paul, to follow You faithfully and proclaim You courageously.
