A meeting of Sikh organizations was held at Takht Sri Damdama Sahib to discuss concerns regarding the 'Jagat Jyot Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar (Amendment) Act-2026' passed by the Punjab government. Leaders, including SGPC President Harjinder Singh Dhami, termed the act as direct interference in Sikh religious affairs. They argued that instead of focusing on punishing culprits of sacrilege, the law imposes more responsibility on Sikh institutions and priests. The acting Jathedar of Akal Takht has given a 15-day ultimatum to the government to amend the objectionable clauses, failing which a final decision will be taken by the five high priests.
