Illegal mobile towers are being installed on the roofs of old buildings in residential areas of Raurkela like Civil Township and Chhend without administration permission. Residents fear major accidents during storms due to these heavy structures. Sundargarh district has 1,716 mobile towers, including 456 from BSNL. Western Odisha accounts for 23.63% of the state's total towers. Despite repeated complaints to the Raurkela Municipal Corporation, no action has been taken against building owners who rent roofs for profit.
