The Meteorological Department has issued a heatwave alert for Punjab and Chandigarh starting May 18, lasting for six days. Temperatures have already crossed 40 degrees in six districts, with Bathinda recording the highest at 43.1°C. A yellow alert is in place for several districts including Fazilka and Mansa. While monsoon is expected to reach Kerala between May 22-30, no rain is predicted for the region in the coming days as dry north-western winds prevail.
