The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts that the southwest monsoon is likely to hit Kerala around June 4, slightly later than its usual June 1 onset. Conditions are favorable for its advancement into parts of the Arabian Sea, Lakshadweep, and Tamil Nadu. Due to El Nino conditions, rainfall is expected to be around 90% of the Long Period Average (LPA), categorized as a 'deficiency'. Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan reviewed the situation, instructing officials to coordinate with states and issue crop advisories to mitigate the impact on Kharif crops.
