Two Sikhs of Jalandhar origin have achieved significant milestones in UK politics. Kulwinder Singh Johal has become the first turbaned Sikh Mayor of Leicester, while Preet Kaur Gill has been appointed as a Junior Health Minister in the Keir Starmer government. Johal, originally from Tehang village, moved to the UK at age six. Preet Kaur Gill, from Jamsher village, was the first British Sikh female MP and has been re-elected for the third time. These achievements have brought immense pride to the Punjabi community worldwide.
