Lakshmi, the 36-year-old elephant of Hampi's Virupaksheshwara Temple, has been moved to an elephant camp in Lakshmipura, Kolar, for medical treatment. After serving as a central attraction in Hampi for 32 years, she developed cracks in her feet and skin lumps, likely due to standing on stone floors. Following expert advice, she was sent to the camp on May 27 for a three-month treatment period. Her mahout Rajanna accompanied her, as locals and devotees bid a tearful farewell, hoping for her speedy recovery and return to the historic site.
