Amidst falling groundwater levels in coastal districts like Udupi and Mangaluru, experts and local citizens are advocating for rainwater harvesting and borewell recharging. With groundwater levels dropping to 7.93 meters this year compared to previous years, individuals like Ronaldo from Ganjimath and Jayanthi Bhat from Barkur have successfully implemented recharge units. A 100 sq. meter roof can collect up to 2.70 lakh liters of water annually. Experts suggest that installing these systems, costing between Rs 5,000 and Rs 50,000, can help families become self-sufficient and combat future water scarcity.
