I never planned to write a book on Genesis.
I just got tired of hearing the same two things:
“Don’t ask questions — just believe.”
And: “Genesis is a myth. It’s not meant to be taken seriously.”
Neither of those felt true. And I don't think they feel true to you either.
So I did something a little crazy. I sat down and wrote the book I wanted to read myself.
The Living Word: In the Beginning is not a dry commentary. It’s an immersive, scene-by-scene retelling of the whole story of Genesis — but it’s also for the person who has real questions and wants real answers.
Here’s why I think you’ll love it:
📖 It meets you where you are.
There are two paths through the book. The Story Path is pure narrative and key verses — perfect for devotional reading, even if you’ve never opened a Bible before. The Full Path goes deeper: Catechism, Church Fathers, apologetics, and all the hard questions.
🕊️ The hard stuff isn’t skipped.
Dinosaurs and the Flood. The age of the earth. Lucifer’s fall. Free will. The Trinity hiding in Genesis 1. Melchizedek — that mysterious priest who brings out bread and wine 2,000 years before the Last Supper. If you’ve ever wondered about these things, the book faces them head-on.
⚖️ You’re not told what to think.
Where faithful Catholics interpret the text differently, I lay out the perspectives honestly. No forcing one view. No telling you to stop thinking. The line between “the Church teaches” and “some theologians understand” is always clear.
🌿 The women aren’t footnotes.
A whole chapter on the Mothers of Israel — Eve, Sarah, Hagar, Rebekah, Rachel, Leah, Tamar. Because the promise was carried in bodies that ached, waited, and laughed at impossible news. Hagar, an Egyptian slave, is the only person in Scripture who gives God a name: El Roi — the God who sees me. That still wrecks me.
💬 Every chapter ends with prayer.
Not as an afterthought — as the room you step into after the theology has done its work. This book is meant to be a conversation, not a lecture.
And I’ll be honest with you: I used AI tools to help me write this. Every word of theology is mine, every insight is grounded in two thousand years of Catholic teaching — but the tools let me get this out of my head and into your hands faster than I ever could alone. God gives gifts. Some of them are silicon. I’m not hiding that.
If you’ve ever felt lost in Genesis — or been told your questions were a problem — this was written for you.
