"விதியை மதியால் வெல்லலாம்" என்பார்கள். ஆனால், அந்த மதியையும் கடந்து 'காலத்தையே' வென்ற ஒரு சிறுவனின் கதை இது!
16 வயதில் ஒரு சவால்:
மிருகண்டு முனிவரின் மகனான மார்க்கண்டேயனுக்கு விதித்த ஆயுள் வெறும் 16 ஆண்டுகளே. அவனது 16-வது பிறந்தநாளில் எமதர்மன் அவனது உயிரைப் பறிக்கப் பாசக்கயிற்றை வீசினார்.
எமனுக்கே சவால் விட்ட பக்தி:
மரண பயம் வந்தபோது மார்க்கண்டேயன் செய்த ஒரே காரியம் — சிவலிங்கத்தை இறுகக் கட்டிக்கொண்டு 'சிவாய நம' என்று சரணடைந்தது தான். எமன் வீசிய கயிறு சிவலிங்கத்தின் மேல் விழ, அங்கிருந்து உக்ரமாக வெளிப்பட்டார் சிவபெருமான்!
காலத்தை நிறுத்திய வரம்:
சிவபெருமான் எமனை விரட்டிவிட்டு, மார்க்கண்டேயனுக்கு ஒரு விசித்திரமான வரத்தைத் தந்தார்: "நீ என்றும் 16 வயது இளைஞனாகவே இருப்பாய்!"
யுகங்கள் மாறினாலும், பிரபஞ்சம் அழிந்து மீண்டும் தோன்றினாலும், மார்க்கண்டேயனுக்கு மட்டும் காலம் ஓடுவதில்லை. அவன் காலத்தின் பிடியிலிருந்து விடுபட்ட 'சிரஞ்சீவி' ஆகிவிட்டான்.
காலம் ஒரு மனக்கட்டு:
நாம் வயதாகிறது என்று நினைப்பதாலேயே உடல் முதிர்ச்சியடைகிறது. ஆனால், தியானத்தில் காலத்தைக் கடந்த அந்தப் 'பரம்பொருளுடன்' இணைந்துவிட்டால், நம் ஆத்மா என்றும் இளமையாகவும், ஆற்றல் மிக்கதாகவும் இருக்கும். மார்க்கண்டேயன் நமக்குக் காட்டும் பாடம் — 'சரணாகதி' இருந்தால் காலமும் நமக்குக் கட்டுப்படும்!
வாழ்க்கையின் சோதனைகள் (எமன் போல) நம்மை நெருங்கினாலும், நம்பிக்கையுடன் இருந்தால் காலமே நமக்குச் சாதகமாக மாறும்.
The 16-Year-Old Who Conquered Time! Markandeya Reveals the Secret of 'Immortality'
"One can conquer fate through intellect," so the saying goes. However, this is the story of a young boy who transcended even that intellect to conquer 'Time itself'!
A Challenge at 16:
Markandeya, the son of Sage Mrikandu, was destined to live for a mere 16 years. On his 16th birthday, Yama—the God of Death—cast his noose to claim the boy's life.
Devotion That Challenged Death:
When faced with the fear of death, the only thing Markandeya did was to cling tightly to a Shiva Lingam and surrender himself completely, chanting "Shivaya Namaha." When the noose cast by Yama landed upon the Shiva Lingam, Lord Shiva Himself emerged from it in a fierce and formidable form!
A Boon That Halted Time:
Lord Shiva drove Yama away and bestowed upon Markandeya a unique boon: "You shall remain a youth of 16 years forever!"
Even as epochs change, and even if the universe were to dissolve and be reborn, for Markandeya alone, time stands still. He has become a 'Chiranjeevi'—an immortal being—liberated from the clutches of time.
Time: A Mental Construct:
Our bodies age simply because we perceive ourselves as aging. However, if—through meditation—we unite with that 'Supreme Reality' which transcends time, our souls remain eternally youthful and vibrant. The lesson Markandeya teaches us is this: through complete 'Surrender' (Saranagati), even time itself can be brought under our control!
Even when life's trials (much like Yama) draw near, if we hold fast to faith, time itself will turn in our favor.
