The Housing and Development Board (HDB) has decided to reduce the development area for a new housing project in Sembawang to preserve the local natural habitat. Approximately 30% of the land (6 hectares), equivalent to eight football fields, will be kept untouched to protect freshwater swamp forests, flora, and fauna. Following an environmental assessment by Aecom, housing development will proceed on the remaining 21 hectares starting in 2028.
